What to expect during your first consultation at New Trails Speech Therapy LLC
What is an Initial Consultation at New Trails Speech Therapy LLC?
An initial consultation is often the first stepping stone to a more confident and clear communication path. This important meeting helps us understand your unique needs and sets the foundation for a personalized therapy plan. Consultations are 30 minutes long…and they’re free! Whether you’re seeking support for yourself, your child, or a loved one, we are here to guide you through every step of the process.
What to Expect During Your Initial Consultation
1. Introduction
Meet your speech therapist You’ll meet with Andrea, a licensed speech-language pathologist and founder of New Trails Speech Therapy LLC, who will introduce herself and get to know a little more about your concerns or questions regarding speech therapy. We can also discuss what speech therapy is and a little about how speech therapy intervention might be able to help you or your loved one.
2. Sharing Your Concerns
Discuss your goals: We’ll take the time to listen to your communication concerns, goals, and any specific challenges you’re facing. Whether it’s issues with speech clarity, language development, stuttering, or cognition, we’re here to listen and understand.
3. Decisions About Potential Evaluation
Make a plan: Based on our conversation, we may recommend a formal speech/language evaluation. This involves assessments, observations, and in-depth discussions to get a complete picture of your needs. Evaluations help us determine if there is a need for speech therapy intervention and to develop a tailored intervention plan. If it is unclear whether an evaluation may be warranted, we might recommend a speech/language screening to dive just a little deeper into current speech or language skills before proceeding with a full evaluation.
4. Addressing Your Questions
Open Dialogue: We encourage you to ask any questions you might have about the therapy process, expected results, or anything else on your mind. Our goal is to make sure you feel comfortable and confident moving forward in your therapy journey.
5. Review Current Pricing
Stay Informed: We will talk about our current pricing for speech evaluations and intervention as well as out of network billing procedures. You are welcome to ask as many questions you have about this or reach out as questions come up after the consultation. Read more about insurance and billing info here.
What Happens After the Consultation?
1. Evaluation
- Assessing strengths and areas of need: If recommended we will proceed with an evaluation. The evaluation can cover one area of concern (such as only stuttering, only articulation, etc.) or we can complete a comprehensive evaluation to take a look at multiple areas or communication skills. Evaluations are conducted with cultural and linguistic diversity in mind and designed to determine if speech therapy is warranted and it helps us create the most effective therapy plan possible when starting out with intervention.
2. Developing Your Therapy Plan
- Personalized Approach: We will finalize a detailed therapy plan based on the recommendations discussed during the evaluation. This plan will be designed specifically to address your unique communication needs and goals.
2. Scheduling Your Sessions
- Regular Appointments: You’ll work with us to set up a schedule for regular therapy sessions. Consistent sessions are crucial for making steady progress and achieving your goals. Most appointments are scheduled 1 time a week and up to 3 times per week depending on the nature of recommended interventions.
3. Home Practice
- Supporting Your Journey: We may provide exercises or activities for you to work on at home. These activities are intended to reinforce what you or your child has learned in therapy and support overall progress.
4. Monitoring Progress
- Ongoing Evaluation: We’ll regularly assess your progress during treatment session. This allows us to make any necessary adjustments to the therapy plan and ensure it remains effective.
5. Collaboration and Support
- Partnering with You: We are here to support you throughout your therapy journey. We value collaboration and may involve family members or caregivers to enhance the effectiveness of the therapy. Parent/caregiver coaching sessions might also be included, in addition to or even instead of direct therapy in some cases.
6. Feedback and Adjustments
- Continuous Improvement: Your feedback is important to us. We encourage you to share your thoughts on the therapy experience so we can make adjustments and ensure that the therapy meets your needs.
